@MPISTL July 2018 – I Attended WEC 2018 & I Liked it!

By Julie Wibbenmeyer, MPI St. Louis Area Chapter President-Elect

World Education Congress 2018 was held in Indianapolis June 2-5, 2018 at the Indiana Convention Center. As a 4th time attendee of WEC, this year did not disappoint!

Each day started and ended with a high-energy pep rally. While I am sure everyone has a different favorite part of the pep rallies, I think the most memorable for me was Michael Cerbelli’s “The Hot List 2018.” Michael Cerbelli presented attendees with creative, new and trending ideas to incorporate into events.

Let’s not forget one of the most important parts of WEC – the education and inspiring speakers. There was a mix of educational sessions for almost anyone in a professional role and any involvement in the MPI community. More than 80 concurrent education sessions were delivered in 30, 60 and 90 minute formats covering a variety of topics. Attendees had the opportunity to earn up to 11 clock hours! New to WEC this year were Leadership Villages, which took education into an open and interactive environment.

Other parts of WEC that I was lucky enough to take advantage of were a professional photography headshot, meeting one-on-one with a career coach, and taking a session on “Behind the Scenes” which showed the environment of creating the WEC pep rallies and sessions. And, I was able to get some doggie cuddling in with Paws for a Cause.

Along with the education – there was fun to be had! WEC provided numerous opportunities for networking and making new connections. Opening Night Celebration was held at White River State Park with entertainment by a capella group Straight No Chaser. Throughout the park were culinary and interactive stations. Lunch on Sunday was outside, with Georgia Street blocked off with food trucks. Sunday evening, Visit Indy hosted a block party at Monument Circle with entertainment by a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Tribute Band. Monday’s lunch was right on the field of Lucas Oil Stadium. The Presidents Dinner & Rendezvous was held Monday night. And the closing reception was at none other than the first place you think of when you think of Indianapolis – The Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

WEC 2019 is scheduled to be held in Toronto June 15-18, 2019. I encourage everyone to attend and hope to see you there!
